For the creative, meticulous restoration and adaptive reuse of a landmark commercial building.
Exterior restoration and rehabilitation of what had been a 1914 flagship department store, converted now to office use. Cleaning and restoration of exterior stonework, in-kind replacement of damaged or missing elements, and the re-creation of sixth floor balconies were notable. Repair, cleaning, restoration and occasional in-kind replacement of bronze widow surrounds and grillwork were notable. Walter Melvin, Architects, LLC, led the project.

For the exacting restoration of exterior stone, masonry, and ornamental sheet iron cornice in this important landmark building.
A meticulous restoration of the five-story façade and elaborate cornice of a prominent tenement building in the Greenwich Village Historical District. Committee members appreciated the creative methods employed to deal with deteriorated exterior limestone elements and terra cotta ornaments. Extensive work on the ornamental sheet metal cornice involved sheet metal replacement where necessary and creation of a wooden structural armature to support the assembly. Caseworks, Architects, led the project.

For the exemplary restoration and rehabilitation of an important house museum and surrounding grounds
A comprehensive exterior and interior restoration and rehabilitation of an 1884/1885 residence, now a house museum. The project included structural and interior mechanical system rehabilitations, ADA-compliant access features, exacting paint and wallpaper analysis, and restoration of metal elements and tilework. A new period-appropriate carriage house is a visitors’ center.
