The Fall 2010 Study Tour Brochure is out. Please join us for a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana!

You are cordially invited to a fall weekend of touring one of the world’s most unique cities and its up-river plantation country. Founded in 1717, New Orleans is rich in architecture from four centuries but its 19th century array of mansions and commercial structures are unmatched elsewhere in this country. In addition, it has been known for its fine cuisine for generations and its world-class antique shops are known the world over. This tour will allow time for participants to explore both the best food and the shopping of New Orleans.

VSA  BOARD  MEMBERS  NEEDED

Most of the programmatic work of the VSA is conducted by its Board of Directors, which is comprised of twelve committees, each with a specific responsibility.  The VSA is seeking members who have the requisite time, interest and experience to join the Board and serve on one of the following committees:  Financial Development, Publicity and Membership.  Someone interested in grant writing would be especially desirable.  The Board and its committees meet three times a year in various locations.  Willingness to work is more important than experience.

The nomination form, instructions and obligations may be found on the VSA website:  www.victoriansociety.org.  In the left menu bar, click on “vsa board/officials” under the heading “Departments.”   Then, in the last sentence at the bottom of the Board page, click on “USE THIS FORM.”

If you have any questions about nominations, Charles Robertson, Chair of the Nominating Committee, will be pleased to answer them. Contact information for him may be found at the bottom of the nomination form. If you are unable to print a nomination form, you may call Charles at (202) 265-6669 and he will mail one to you.

ARE YOU A MEMBER OF A CHAPTER?

Three new chapters have been formed in the past 2 years: Northwest, Columbia River Plateau, and Hoosier. We welcome their influx of enthusiasm, local historical knowledge, and additional opportunities for the exchange of information on this important era in America's past. Chapters serve as important regional presences for the national organization, because our members can take part locally and gain new insights into how the past has influenced the present. Many even help with historical preservation efforts in their communities.

If you are interested in starting up a Chapter in your area, please visit the page on Forming a Chapter of our website by clicking here.
