OBITUARY: Allison Ledes

Allison Ledes, Editor of the Magazine Antiques and member of the Victorian Society Scholarship Fund Board since its founding in 1974, passed away on 12th January 2008, from cancer.

Allison helped and furthered so many of the alumni and summer schools, and as a very busy editor, made time to assist Victorians in their pursuits. Allison was great fun and had courage. Her vision led magazine into exciting new directions.

There will be a "celebration of her life" on Wednesday, 23rd January at 10 am in the Tiffany Room at the Armory on Park Avenue at 66th Street.

Allison is survived by her husband, George, and daughters, Meredith and Abby.

Contributions can be made to the American Friends of Attingham, (1965 Broadway #20C, New York, NY 10023) where she had served as President and loyal supporter.

The memorial service is planned at the same time as the East Side Antiques Show and Americana week when many of you may be in New York.

News

We have moved!

Effective September 1, 2007 our new address and phone/fax information will be as follows:

The Victorian Society in America
1634 Sansom Street
Philadelphia, PA 19103
Phone: 215-636-9872

The new office space is in the First Baptist Church of Philadelphia, the 11th oldest Baptist Church in the US (founded in 1698). The building itself dates to 1899, and was designed by Edgar V. Seeler, the architect of several noted buildings in and around Philadelphia, among them the Curtis Center (still home to the stunningly beautiful Louis Comfort Tiffany mosaic "The Dream Garden"). The church sanctuary is an impressive blending of the Romanesque and Byzantine styles, and is worth a visit of its own when in town. Our office is accessed via the side entrance on Sansom Street.

Our email address and website remain unchanged.

Email Newsletter

The monthly email newsletter is a recent innovation as a supplementary publication for members.  Distinct in tone and content from The Victorian printed newsletter, it is intended to keep a more frequent contact between the VSA and its members, while featuring related news, events, and stories.
